Bar Camp Model
Bar Camp is a conference learning model that promotes diversity and interaction. The idea isn't to have just a few presenters but to invite everyone to present for a short time on what they are doing/passionate about/developing in short 10 min glimpses followed by discussion about that topic for 10min then move on to the next short presentation.
The presentations can be informal or more planned depending on your style and interest. One advantage of this format over simply raising discussion topics for the group is that it allows for the presenter to share related research, current events, news, or other information in a way that doesn't occur in purely group discussion. For instance on my transition into school topic, I will provide an overview of Pollock's (1999) 5 Stage Transition Model in my 10min to give us a common starting place and framework for interesting dialogue around what we are all doing to help ease student transitions into our school communities.
Allowing time for breaks, transitions, and using two rooms I think we should be able to hear from up to 12 presenters. (Sign up and view the schedule here) By having two rooms, people could go to the topic that was of most interest for them.
